Health Information Management has been Jeffrey Bird's profession since 1995. With 19 years of experience in the profession he has witnessed the changes in healthcare and the effect of those changes on the health information management profession. Jeffrey has practiced the HIM profession in a variety of settings including acute care hospitals, Information Systems Departments, and as a consultant both for clinical coding and IT system implementation. He has a keen understanding of health information systems analysis, design, and implementation and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), Joint Commission International (JCI) standards and local healthcare regulations.
Jeffrey has a high level of skill and understanding of clinical coding systems including the ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-WHO, ICD-10-CM and CPT coding and classification systems. In addition, he has extensive knowledge of Health Information Management (HIM) operations and the interrelation of HIM and information technology systems.
He has been involved in a variety of projects both in the United States and in the Middle East. While at the American Hospital Dubai he played a key role in the implementation of the electronic claims (e-Claims) initiative which included the implementation of ICD-10-CM across the Emirate of Dubai.
As the Director, HIMS at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Jeffrey has been primarily responsible for strategically managing the development of the policies, procedures, workflows, and information technology systems for a startup Health Information Management Services (HIMS) Department within a complex quaternary hospital system.
